2011 Renewal

Happy New Year Fashionistas!

Sorry I have been missing in action for the past few months, this pas
t semester was
intense to say the very least. But I am back to let you know what is definitely going to get you noticed, and what is sooooo 2010....

2010 brought us the jegging, an obsession over high leather boots, and the revival of the shoulder pad (gross!). Can we just lay shoulder pads to rest in 2011 please? But as long as we see this trend on fashion runways where I find them appropriate, unfortunately we will see them recreated in everyday life. So far 2011 has nice
suprises in the world of fashion
which I am so excited about!

Boot Cut & Flared Jeans
Many of us are now digging back in a drawers for boot cut or flared jeans. They never necessarily went "OUT" but with skinny jean crazy of the past couple of years, we
haven't seen the boot or flared jeans as much like in older times. I have noticed reemergence of these jeans from marketing at my job and the amount of people returning those skinny jeans for a more relaxed look, or from other fashion sites ad outlets. Not to fear though your skinny jeans and jeggings are still very much in!

Bustier Tops
This trend I am so excited about! One, they are so sexy and feminine; Two they are HOT. These tops are almost impossible to look bad in, if you purchase a bustier that fits you correctly! From what I have seen Urban Outfitters has a nice array of bustiers and am so planning on buying some! The Pleasure Doing Business Pearlized Sweetheart Zip Back Bustier form Urban Outfitters goes for 175 dollars, but there are other tops that go easier on your bank account!

OVERSIZED
Oh so Nicole Richie; If you are petite this is the trend for you, even though this trend has been around for a while it seems to be becoming even more main stream than before. If you go to any store, or browse online most clothing looks more swingy and loose, to the point where customers inquire as to whether the stores have been changing their sizes on the the size charts. This top from Forever 21 is called the Wavy Pleat Top and is $14.80.

Ballerina Chic
Rip a page from two of my favorite celebrities Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman and go ballerina chic with oversized sweaters that are reminiscent ballerina wraps. Delve into warm body hugging sweaters that you can wear all day. Pair those sweaters with light wispy fabrics, especially in rose, peony and mauve colors.

Chiffon
This is like a side note to the oversized trend; when chiffon is thrown into the mix, it is like a match made in heaven! It is very yacht chic, and especially perfect for Spring Break, which is just around the corner for college gals!

Modern Art
Straight lines, and geometric shapes shouldn't stay in your math class, and your favorite modern art pieces shouldn't stay on their canvases. Apply these concepts in the clothing that you purchase. This look will surely impress, and transitions well from day to night. The BCBGeneration Printed Button-Back Top is a perfect example of this trend!

Sparkle & Shine
Still one of my favorites since I was a child, embellishments on clothing for this year is still sparkling on! Perfect for a night out or play if down underneath a cardi, it is perfect for everyday use!

2010 trends that you don't want to be seen in : those lense-less oversized glasses for everyday use. NO BUENO, only bueno when used in a party setting.
The horrible trifecta of laziness of college girls everywhere: leggings + a northface + UGGS= disaster (period)
I understand it is comfortable, but leggings aren't pants, only when your top covers your bum is it ever acceptable. This is why lovely fashion designers invented jeggings, invest in some, so...
as a new years resolution, fashionistas, let us plegdge to rid our lovely college campuses of this!

I will be back soon enough with tips on how to brave the cold in chicly :]

Love, J'Adore, Amor,

Gabriela Mercedes
